The Ultimate She Shack

Have you heard of the “She Shack”? Small sheds, extra bedrooms, and garages around the nation are being converted into the ladies equivalent to a man cave, the “She Shack”. But why should it be limited to four walls? Why not your backyard? Like most things, women do not like to do most things alone…so why not take over the backyard? Here are three tips for making your backyard the ultimate “She Shack”.

Outdoor Man Cave

What has metal, wood, fire, earth, and water? If you answered, “What are the five elements?” You may have been watching too much Jeopardy and need to get outside. You need a place to call your own, a man cave that can make your backyard more than just a place to use the lawn mower. Here are three tips for combining the five elements that make our outdoor world exciting and adventurous. Embrace the five elements…

Earth, Fire, and Metal

Earth and metal have been the means of cooking since man discovered fire. These three elements shout masculinity when it comes to cooking. Unlike, your prehistoric grandfather’s grill…the Kamado Joe Collection is modern and rugged. The Kamado Joe Collection has many options and a lifetime warranty, how can you not have this in your man cave?  It is exactly what your outdoor oasis needs!

Out of the five above-mentioned elements, water is the perfect element to melt away that hard day at the office. A spa paired with a big screen will make your dream man space even better. Imagine watching your favorite sports team from the best seat in the house, your spa. With a cold beverage in one hand and that perfectly cooked steak ready to be eaten, what could be better? At Brother’s Pool we know we have the spa that will fit your backyard and your budget.

The spa is placed, your grill is ready to cook a nice juicy New York steak and the only thing you are missing is a place to sit and enjoy your morning cup of coffee. The final element needs to be present…wood is one of the most versatile materials man has used from the beginning of time and the last element on your checklist to complete your outdoor man cave. Look no further than a nice set of patio furniture and a  Pine Ridge Fire Pit Table to warm you. The top has a barn wood look that will finish the five elements to your man cave.

Here at Brothers Pool, we have exactly what you need to complete the perfect outdoor man cave that you will enjoy time and time again.

Easter Lunch on the Kamado Joe

Easter is the perfect holiday to spend outdoors. The crisp Spring air gets everybody in the mood for summer. Unfortunately, the one who is in charge of the Easter meal usually gets stuck inside slaving away while the rest of the family enjoys the fun in the backyard. That is, until this year. Why not cook Easter lunch on your Kamado Joe? The chef gets to enjoy more family time and the family will love the rich flavors of food fixed on the Kamado Joe. We’ve put together a couple of recipes to get you started.

Standing Rib Roast

12-pound bone-in rib roast
12 cloves garlic
1/3 cup canola oil
Leaves from 3 sprigs fresh rosemary – chopped
Kosher Salt
Freshly cracked or ground pepper

Purchase a 12-pound bone-in Choice rib roast. (Where I buy my rib roasts, the bone is cut from the meat, then tied back on.) I let it age for 4 days in the refrigerator.
About an hour before I put it on:
Start the fire and set up for indirect heat
1. Chop up a few sprigs of fresh rosemary and add to about 1/4 – 1/3 cup of canola oil
2. Cut the twine tying the meat and bones
3. Pierce the roast about six times on both sides and insert a clove of garlic into the hole as far as you can push it
3. Tie the bones back onto the meat
4. Brush the roast with the oil / rosemary
5. Season liberally with kosher salt and fresh cracked black pepper
Bring the temp in the Kamado Joe to about 325°.
Throw on a chunk of pecan (soaked it for about an hour)
Roast on – add another chunk of pecan after about an hour
Try to keep temp between 325 – 350°
Cook until internal temp is 125° – right at 2 hours
Let it rest, cover with foil, for about 30 minutes

Smoked Mac and Cheese

6 cups uncooked macaroni
1 1/2 sticks butter
3 1/2 cups milk
6 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 tsp chipotle chili powder
8-10 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1-2 cups shredded parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper to taste

Preheat your Kamado Joe to 350°. Add a couple smoke wood chunks (apple is fantastic for this.)

Cook the macaroni noodles per the instructions on the box in salted water and then drain. Add the butter and stir to melt into the macaroni noodles. Add the milk, beaten eggs, and chipotle chili powder and stir to mix. Add six cups of shredded cheddar cheese and mix well. Place the macaroni mixture into a deep 9×13 baking pan. Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese (or however much desired) on top of the macaroni mixture. Sprinkle the shredded parmesan cheese on top of the cheddar cheese. Sprinkle some freshly ground black pepper on top.

Place the dish on the Kamado Joe and let cook at 350° for 30-35 minutes. At the 30 minute mark, open your vents to bring the temperature up to 425-450° to brown the top a little. Let stand for 10 minutes and serve hot

If fixing Easter Lunch outdoors sounds perfect, but your old grill just can’t keep up with the demand, then stop by and visit us at Brothers Pool. We can get you set up with a brand new Kamado Joe so you will be up and grilling long before Easter.

What is a Ceramic Grill?

Kamodo Outdoor Grill

A new grilling season is always a good reason to get excited.

There’s always a debate about what’s the best way to grill, gas or charcoal. These two choices should not be the end of the argument. In fact, why argue at all? There’s another way to grill.

How about a ceramic grill? What’s that? What’s a ceramic grill and how does it work? No problem, here’s a little education on the ceramic grill and its history.

A ceramic grill has a shape that resembles an egg and has an outer shell often made of high fire ceramic and other materials such as traditional terra cotta and crushed lava rock. This material allows the grill to lock in heat and smoke while cooking the food inside. The ceramic grill has a bowl at the bottom to hold wood lump charcoal (the best charcoal for a ceramic grill). There are two vents in the grill, one at the bottom near the charcoal bowl and one at the top of the lid. The vent at the bottom allows air to be drawn into the cooker, around the charcoal. It is then released as smoke into the cooking grate. The grill’s ceramic lid keeps heat and moisture inside the cooking area of the grill. The heat and moisture are released when the top vent is opened. The more air that goes into the grill, the higher the temperature. Digital temperature controllers monitor and regulate the temperature during the cooking process.

The insulation of that heat and moisture means a delicious end result when grilling or smoking. The egg shape of the ceramic grill allows for a more thorough and uniform cooking process.
